Most CIOs have now succeeded in joining their company's Management Committee: here it is, great news! However, for many of them, it is still difficult to position themselves within this CoDir.
And for good reason: unlike their colleagues, they do not have a tool to promote their job. The CFO has a tool through which it can observe all the key metrics related to finance. Sales and marketing departments have a CRM that allows them to analyze their performance. The HR director can justify actions carried out in his division with his HRIS. So what about the CIO?
Our position : What the CIO needs to establish himself as a full member of the CoDir is a tool of his own, which allows him to give visibility on the governance of his projects and products, and justify his daily work.
A tool never made a member of the CoDir ! It is the posture, the personality of the CIO that will make all the difference in his way of establishing himself as a key element of the Management Committee.
A good number of tools already exist to monitor the performance of the IT department, and yet, they did not help them win at the CoDiR.
The central problem is that the CIO is not a good communicator, that he doesn't know how to sell what he does internally. A tool will not solve this much deeper problem.
The CIO does not know how to take charge of the transformation of a business, which is why transformation managers are now being recruited who have the skills required for this mission.
Governance: this is what the CIO needs ! This is what will allow it to involve all the company's stakeholders, to finally become the hub of its transformation.
A simple tool to speed up decision-making, show the prioritization of projects and products : this is the key to assisting the CIO in this new position.
The massive arrival of CIOs at the CoDiR is an opportunity to seize to prioritize products and projects. ! If a tool can do this, you have to get started!
The IT department must become an operations department : in a professional world where IS is taking up more and more space, this is the logical consequence of the change at work in companies.
📚 You know it: to move your projects forward, you must succeed in focusing on vital decisions. However, in your daily life as a CIO, the emergency always seems to rule out the emergency... and nothing is progressing. The key to changing this situation? Adopt best practices for prioritizing projects. And that's good news: we've put together our best practices in this area in one of our latest articles.

80% of your project initiatives can be cancelled within 15 days of the initial proposal, if you set up a regular meeting with IT and business to discuss them in person.
If they are not directly involved, and do not have to defend their ideas in front of you and other project stakeholders, your collaborators are able to fill your backlog with a whole lot of ideas... which you then struggle to prioritize!
There is nothing like a good, well-structured and well-conducted meeting (that, you know how to do 😉) to empower employees in the face of their initiatives. In just a few minutes, you'll realize how many of these initiatives are in fact false problems. And presto, one less worry on your to-do list!
We've been talking about them for a while now, they're ready! AirSaaS integrations with Jira and Asana are out, to help you connect project milestones and milestones to your preferred governance platform. Isn't life beautiful?
