Good morning,

As a CIO, you are the linchpin of your business transformation. Well, that's in theory... In our exchanges with professionals in the sector, we often realize that this pivotal function is complicated to adopt for many of them. Not because they lack skills... but because another player in the decision-making chain is in the way: the sacrosanct CEO!

What if your relationship with your CEO became more fluid, simpler, and helped you take your project portfolio further?

At Airsaas, you know our bias: to help you align everyone around your high-ambition projects. That's why this entire newsletter will now be devoted to your CIO/CEO relationship, and ways to limit potential friction.

On the program today:

💡 The challenge of the month : restructure your One-to-one with your CEO, to make them more effective and less frustrating.
🔥 The lesson to remember : if the alignment with your CEO is not in good shape, there is only one solution - flee!
🔩 AirSaaS news : the milestones are made more visual, in the form of Kanban, for even more visibility on your portfolio.

And always full of inspiring content to boost the transformation of your business!

In the subway, in the car, or in the middle of a jog, listen Episode 66 of CIO Revolution, where Christophe Godin, interim CIO, looks back on his ten years of crisis management in the press. Inspiring and human, this episode addresses the theme of managerial courage, by highlighting the difficulty of structural changes for individuals, for teams, in the company.
Le challenge du mois

If there are many crucial moments in your daily life as a CIO, it's the interviews you conduct in One-to-one with your General Manager. These moments of alignment between the company's strategy, its goals, and your own management of transformation programs are all opportunities to take stock of your practices.

However, for many CIOs, these moments are also full of stress. Scheduled at the last moment, at the whim of the CEO, and in a format often shortened by its hyper-busy schedule, these One-to-one can quickly become a real constraint.

Our position : It is up to you, CIO, to lay down the framework to restructure these One-to-one with your boss. You don't have to go through the format or frequency of these meetings - or at all less, not totally! The idea is to find the ideal conditions, for you as well as for him, to discuss constructively and advance your programs further.

Les sceptiques vous diront…
  • It is the CEO, so he is the one who chooses! We're not going to impose a format or a rhythm on the boss anyway, right?
  • It is my CEO who decides what topics to discuss : he has more to do than hear about microphone problems. His role is mainly to talk to me about his new ideas and the hot topics of the moment.
  • If it were that easy, we would have done it already! And we've never seen a CEO comply with the wishes of a CIO...
Vos défenseurs rétorqueront…
  • Above all, it is a question of making a pact between DSI and DG. After all, it is as much the One-to-one from one to the other! Why not find a happy medium, where everyone discusses their favorite topics, without interfering with the other's speaking time?
  • It is possible to be coached to position yourself well in this DG/CIO relationship. It's all about posture - and that can be learned.
  • With a recurring visual format, it becomes very easy to master this One-to-one ! By preparing a few slides or diagrams that are understandable at a glance, whose format never varies from one meeting to another, the format of One-to-one is obvious.
Le must-read de notre blog…
📚 It is not uncommon to hear CIOs oppose “project management” and “project portfolio”. Spoiler alert: this millennial match has no place! Very often, we try to bring project management into the portfolio, or vice versa... and that's where the problem lies! Yes: these two methods are far from being opposed, but rather complementary. It's just a matter of not using it the same way. Do you want to reconcile them? We explain to you what the situation is in this article.
La leçon à retenir ce mois-ci

“If you're not in line with your CEO, the longer you stay, the more you dig!”

Despite your efforts to restructure them, your one-to-one meetings with your CEO are often an unnamed mess, where you explain current projects to him, and where he tells you that you have to get used to it, because that's what he wants to set up anyway?

You know it well: for a business to transform, all stakeholders must be aligned around the same values and the same methodologies. And among these stakeholders, your CEO has a significant role: that of aligning all this small world around a direction to take.

Sometimes there are battles you have to accept losing - and if you're not aligned with your CEO, your current company's CEO is one of them. Leaving this CIO position will then probably be the best solution. A pill that is sometimes difficult to swallow - but so beneficial, both for you and for the evolution of the company, in the medium and long term.

Quoi de neuf, chez AirSaas ?

You know it: one of the major benefits of Airsaas is to help you visualize in a macro and clear way the progress of the transformation of your business. And to help you see things even more clearly, even more simply, we've added a new feature to your favorite governance platform: the milestone view in the form of Kanban.

jalons-kanban

In the same way that you could already filter your views based on your projects, decisions, weather, or points of attention, you can now filter everything based on your key milestones.

Enough to make the parallel management of your transversal projects even easier!

The ChatGPT trend is not stopping, and developers are competing in ingenuity to exploit the famous chatbot. This month, we were particularly interested in a project in this area: Auto-GPT.

The project, whose first demo was launched in April 2023, aims to make ChatGPT completely autonomous, once set up to respond to the requests it is asked for. Just that!
